At Classy Body Art, we don't regularly stock stainless steel. With few exceptions, even our basic jewelry is implant-grade titanium. (There are a few very specific circumstances in which we would recommend ordering stainless steel jewelry or suggest a niobium ring.) We get a lot of questions about why we use implant-grade titanium jewelry, so I wanted to highlight some of the benefits.
Titanium is lighter and stronger than steel, which can make it more comfortable to wear.
Titanium is one of the strongest metals available in jewelry. It is highly resistant to corrosion and scratching. Stainless steel is not as durable as titanium and can rust.
Compared to other metals, fewer people have reactions to implant-grade titanium. If you have a sensitivity to nickel or other metals, implant-grade titanium might be a better choice for your piercing.
Compared to steel, our clients tell us that their piercings heal better and faster when they use implant-grade titanium jewelry. Plus, titanium can be anondized (the color can be changed) - a complimentary service when you purchase you jewelry from Classy Body Art.
Importantly, not all titanium is created equal. Some international companies can not or will not produce a mill test certificate, a quality assurance document used in the metals industry that certifies a material's chemical and physical properties and states a product made of metal (steel, brass or other alloys) compliance with international standards. To be sure the jewelry Classy Body Art carries is implant-grade titanium, we only purchase it from U.S. companies who certify that it is implant-grade.
Knowing this and because our discerning clients demand the best quality jewelry, we happily stock hand-polished, American-made, internally-threaded/threadless, implant-grade titanium from companies like Anatometal, Neometal, and Industrial Strength that stand behind their product with lifetime guarantees. We also carry a selection of high-quality gold and rose gold jewelry.
We are the only shop in the Albany area to make this commitment to our clients. It might cost us a little more but our clients are worth it.
